KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 27th 2019

 Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back everyone, I hope that you all had a lovely restful mid-term break. It is wonderful to wake up in the mornings and to see the sun shining in the azure blue skies and to feel the warmth of its heat during the day. At our Monday assembly, some of our 4th and 5th Class boys and girls read out prayers and positive thoughts about having friends and giving thanks for the wonderful weather. And a very special picture was shown to us all by Poppy Bella Shortall which featured the latest scan of her baby brother or baby sister. We are all very excited for Poppy Bella and her parents as they await the arrival of a baby brother or sister for her.

Could I remind you that if your child is going to be absent or late coming to school, that you ring the office or email the school or let the teacher know by 9:30am that morning? This is of absolute importance especially considering Child Protection Issues and Stranger/Danger. If we have not been informed that your child is not in school, the school is left in a difficult situation and most importantly, your child is very vulnerable if something untoward has happened. Also, please send in a note or phone the school, if your child is being kept in from the play yard for any reason. Thank you for your understanding in these matters.

Garda Adam Nolan will be calling to the school on March 7th to talk to the children about ‘Stranger Danger’. He will also be talking to the children about Internet Safety and Cyber-Bullying at a later date. Mobile phones are absolutely forbidden in Kilmacanogue National School and as a school community we all need to work together to ensure that our children are protected from the undisputed dangers posed by some aspects of the internet and social media sites. Please be mindful of the ages at which children are legally entitled to access such sites and groups as WhatsApp, SnapChat, FaceBook and so on.

The lovely Ceremony of Light will take place tonight at 7:30pm in St Mochonog’s Church, Kilmacanogue and I look forward to seeing all the boys and girls of 6th there who are taking part. Thanks to Ms Eibhlin de Bruin for all her hard work.

Lisa Dempsey of the Parents Association has been doing sterling work and with those parents who are available from Senior Infants and 5th Class, looks forward to organising the Confirmation celebration on March 15th. A short meeting will be held in the school next Tuesday, March 5th at 9:20am for those helping out.

And finally, Miss Murray’s joke.

What room can no-one ever enter??………A mushroom!!!

Niamh Murray (Principal)
