KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER MAY 2nd  2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

May has arrived, officially the start of summer! It is also the month of Mary. Every day at 9.30 am during the month of May, a decade of the rosary in honour of Mary will be recited throughout the school by the children. It is really lovely hearing the voices of children praying together or reciting their own special prayers. The children have also been learning the famous song from years gone by called ‘Bring Flowers of the Rarest’. Some of you may remember this from your days at school as well as the renditions by Canon Sydney MacEwan or Frank Patterson. Check them out on YouTube.

The Irish Dancing Classes on Tuesday as well as the Yoga Classes on Friday are going very well and the children are really enjoying them. Remember they cost only €1 for each lesson which is very good value.

Ryan Lavery called in to the school to let the children know about the GAA training which will be taking place each Monday evening in Fitzsimons Park….6.30 pm for Junior Infants up to 2nd Class and 7 pm for 3rd up to 6th Class. His number is 087 1056666 for more details.

The whole school was treated to some very beautiful violin playing from Julieanne Mulligan when she played a wonderful piece over the intercom last week. Such great talent. Well done Julieanne.

Fr Bernard Kennedy paid us a visit last week when he called to see 2nd Class who are preparing for First Holy Communion which will be taking place on Saturday May 19th.  He also called to see Mr Hurley’s Junior Infants as well as Mrs King’s Senior Infants and was so impressed at how good the children were at saying their prayers. Fr Bernard was particularly impressed with Emie Free who was busy tidying up the little kitchen in Mr Hurley’s Class!!

Don’t forget about the various school closures coming up very soon, including Friday May 4th and Monday May 7th. The referendum vote will be taking place in the school, so there will be no school on Friday May 25th. June 1st and June 4th will also necessitate school closure for the Bank Holiday. Next year’s school calendar is on the back of this newsletter…keep it safe!

I am busy at the moment meeting every single child’s parent/guardian throughout the school and I have to say that it is a total pleasure meeting you all. I want to find out how I, as Principal, can make Kilmacanogue National School the very best that it can be for each of your children. I have heard some fantastic ideas already…..please keep them coming and thank you all so much for your wonderful support.

And now for Miss Murray’s joke…….

When do astronauts eat ?……….At launch time !!!

Best wishes always,
