    KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

    WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 9th 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians and of course Boys and Girls,

Well, we have more than a week of school completed at this stage and it is wonderful to hear and see all the boys and girls laughing and smiling happily throughout the school.

Well done to all the children for getting into the habit of walking up to school from 9:10am in such a calm and dignified manner. You have been great walking into your classrooms where your teachers have been waiting to great you each morning from 9:10am.

I have been visiting all the classrooms and the lovely calm, happy atmosphere as well as the great work being done by all is a joy to behold.

Junior Infants have been amazing in the manner in which they have settled into ‘Big School!’ They use their secret walking feet when coming in from the yard and they have drawn wonderful pictures and played loads and loads of games!

Senior Infants love their ‘new’ class with all its colours and exciting activities and they have been so good that I thought they were 4th Class!!!

First Class have done some fantastic art-work on The Enormous Crocodile and have been reading all about him as well as playing different sports outside.

The 2 Second Classes (Orange for Mrs Whelan/Mr Dunne and Pink for Mrs Wolohan……red and blue were replaced!) have been working very hard on their Gaeilge as well as doing lots and lots of beautiful singing!. They are also so very well behaved that at times I have had to remind myself that they are in the building!!

Third Class have been working really well on their Maths and reading and they love their class right next to the ‘new’ tarmac play area where they have been playing their various sports’ activities.

Fourth Class love playing outside, as do all the children throughout the school, and with their own personal door into and out of their class leading to the yard, they are so lucky! They are also brilliant at doing the hoola-hoop!!!

Fifth Class have done so much work on Literacy and the quality of their handwriting is absolutely tremendous, with some children writing to a really professional standard! They could make a living out of it!!

Sixth Class have been working very hard and focusing on the 3 R’s, Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic!! They are great young people. With all the hard work associated with 6th Class I, along with Mr O’Connor, want to create opportunities to reward 6th Class as the weeks progress for all their good work and positive behaviour. It cannot be all work and no play!! ????

We will update the parents in Third Class about First Holy Communion (which should have taken place last May) and which is now due to take place Saturday October 3rd in St Mary’s Church, Enniskerry. The Parish Committee are organising the logistics and finer details with the various times each day and obviously social distancing will play a huge factor in the final arrangements to help ensure the health and safety of everyone involved.

As you can see from our photos we have lots of safety measures in place throughout the school from the hand sanitizers to the self-disinfecting mats for the children. We will be constantly reviewing and updating the equipment and facilities to ensure the safety of all the children and staff.

(Self-disinfecting Mat in Junior and Senior Infant Classes)

Just to remind parents/guardians, that if your child is feeling very unwell, please keep them at home. Unfortunately, there is a tummy bug doing the rounds!

Also, if your child has a multiple of these symptoms: a sore throat, temperature, runny nose, shortness of breath, then please keep them at home and phone your GP to get the all clear before sending them back to school. Please read the information which I emailed few days ago outlining advice for parents from the HSE.

Finally, well done again to all the children and to the parents and to all the staff for helping us to stay healthy and safe and happy!

And now for the moment you have all been waiting for…..Miss Murray’s joke!!

What did one Maths’ Book say to another Maths’ Book????………..I’ve got a lot of problems!
