KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 18th 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians and of course Boys and Girls,

We have had a very busy few weeks already and our Junior Infant children are settling in very well although it has been very tiring for them working so hard until 2:00pm each day. Just a little reminder to everyone collecting their children to wait behind the blue doors next to the entrance of the Junior Classes, this helps avoid congestion in the corridor and gives the teachers a chance of seeing to whom each child should be handed.

Our after-school activities are finally up and running with Hip, Hop on Monday, Creative Keyboard on Tuesday, Yoga on Wednesday and Artzone on Friday. The individual piano lessons during school hours on Wednesday are also going very well. Remember to make direct contact with the organisers of these activities for further information. Their details were on last week’s Wednesday Newsletter which can be read on the school website www.kilmacschool.ie under the link /tab News.

The Parents’ Association have posted information on the Open Days taking place for the various Secondary Schools in the area which may be of interest. Please check out www.kilmacschool.ie and the Parents’ Association link with the tab containing the Secondary School Listing.

The Roald Dahl Day in the school last Friday was amazing with all the children dressing up so brilliantly as their favourite characters. There were Matildas and crocodiles and monkeys and witches and goblins and Roly Poly birds and elephants and Twits and BFG’s and foxes……in fact there were very few real teachers or children left in the school at all, all day!!! The children throughout the school did some lovely Art work based on the books of Roald Dahl, and Ms Denvir’s First Class, treated me to a video presentation of their project work done on crocodiles!!! Very interesting indeed. Well done everyone.

The school will be closed on November 18th for the children as the teachers will be attending a course on the New Primary Language Curriculum which will be held in the Blackrock Education Centre. This is the 2nd phase of the implementation of this new curriculum.

Just a gentle reminder that the school does not open before 9:20am, so it would be prudent not to have any child on the premises much before this time as there will be no one to supervise them. Thank you for your understanding in this.

The GAA Girls’ Blitz in Bray Emmets will happen tomorrow from 11:15am to 2:00pm for 5th and 6th Class girls. Notes have already been sent out.

Confirmation Preparation Mass for 6th Class will take place this coming Sunday in St Mochonog’s Church, Kilmacanogue at 10:00am.

Tonight at 8:00pm in the school hall, the parents of our fantastic Junior Infant children are invited to attend a meeting for an update on all that is going on in Junior Infants and what is expected for the year.

And now for the jokes you all love!!

What’s a snake’s favourite subject?………Hissssstory!!
