KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 23rd 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians and of course Boys and Girls,

Well the Hallowe’en mid-term break has arrived!!

Our Monday assembly was very special as usual with the children saying their morning prayers as well as reciting the Our Father and Hail Mary in tribute to October being the month of the Rosary. Our Junior Classes sang a song called ‘Bibbidi- Bobbidi Boo’ from the musical Cinderella while our Senior Classes sang ‘Whistle Down the Wind’ which is a song about friends being there for one another. Ms Quiney’s 4th Class treated us all to a rendition of ‘The Boneyard Rap’ which was very exciting and spooky for this time of the year!

This coming Friday the children may dress up in their amazing Hallowe’en costumes. Any child who does not want to wear a costume may wear their own casual clothes instead of the usual school uniform. There will also be a cake sale in the school hall on Friday and we would be delighted if anyone would make or bring in any cakes or buns for the cake sale. This is always a firm favourite with the children……. I wonder why??!

Well done to Aoibhe Nolan in 5th Class for achieving Silver Stage 2 in her Rookie Lifeguard Award. Congratulations Aoibhe.

During Maths’ Week our Junior Infants were treated to a very special lesson with 4th Class when they visited the older children who showed them lots of interesting Maths’ activities. The Infants had a great time. Also Ms Kyne’s 6th Class took both First Classes under their wing so to speak when they showed the children lots of fun Maths’ games. Thanks to the teachers for all their hard work. There will be lots more station work like this taking place in the future with the older children helping the younger children.

Thanks to Garda Adam Nolan for calling to the school on Tuesday to talk to the boys and girls of 5th and 6th Class about the dangers surrounding Hallowe’en with the bonfires and fireworks.

Tomorrow, Thursday, the boys from 3rd and 4th class will be playing in the football blitz in Bray Emmets. Hopefully the weather will be an improvement on last week’s.

This coming Sunday, October 27th is the preparation Mass for Confirmation in St Mochonog’s Church at 10:00am. The following Sunday, November 3rd will be the preparation Mass for those making their First Holy Communion.

I am delighted that so many children will be taking part in the Kilcoole Music Festival at the end of November. Lots of singing and poetry and piano playing will be heard throughout the school over the next few weeks and there will be lots more musical activities during this year dedicated to Music in Kilmacanogue National School. More of that later!!

This coming Friday evening, October 25th in Christ Church Bray at 7:30p, there will be a very special fundraising concert for the 2P’s Fund, featuring The Bray Concert Band, Hidden Stills with the wonderful voice of Mildred Fox with Christian Hind and David Rooney.

The fun doesn’t stop there! On Sunday October 27th at 7:30pm in Kilmacanogue GAA Clubhouse, there will be a ‘Spooky Kids’ Disco’ for children aged 6-13 years old. This is a fundraiser for GAA Lip Sync Legends. Admission is €5 and adults are welcome to stay if they dare!!

And there is more!! On Tuesday October 29th at 7:30pm once again in Kilmacanogue GAA Clubhouse, there will be a ‘Movie Night’. This is also a fundraiser for the Lip Sync Legends as well as the 2P’s. Admission €5.

A reminder that school will be closed for the mid-term break from Monday October 28th until Friday November 1st inclusive. And November 18th will be training day for the New Primary Language Curriculum Stage 2 for teachers in Blackrock Education Centre, so the school will be closed that day also.

Our very best wishes go to Ms Clara Lynch who will be getting married this coming Friday. The boys and girls formed a guard of honour as she walked her children out from school yesterday. It was a really lovely surprise for her to hear all the children cheering her and wishing her the very best wishes.

And now what you have been waiting for……Miss Murray’s joke!

What do birds say on Hallowe’en? ………Trick or Tweet!!
