    KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

    WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 6TH2019

Dear Parents/Guardians and of course Boys and Girls,

Welcome back everyone. I hope that you all had a very nice mid-term break and that the boys and girls had great fun dressing up on Hallowe’en night and going trick or treating!

I want to say thanks to all the parents who helped out with the Cake Sale on Friday 25th. The smell of sugar was throughout the school!! We shall have to get back to working on our Healthy Eating Lifestyle!! Check out the school twitter account @kilmacanoguens to see some of the photos.

This term has started off with great zest and enthusiasm, with the Kilcoole Music Festival due to take place the week beginning November 18th. The actual times and days for the competitions will be clarified in the next day or so to all those taking part. On the subject of Music, I was treated to a wonderful 2-part rendition by 2nd Class singing the Marching Song. Well done to Mrs Whelan’s boys and girls.

Tomorrow, Thursday 7th, the nurses from the HSE will be calling to the school to give the vaccinations to the Junior Infant children. If any parent wants to know what time their child is due to be vaccinated during the day, please ring the office or ask Ms O’Gorman.

On an exciting education note, the Inspectors from the Department of Education and Skills will be calling to our lovely school Tuesday November 19th, Wednesday November 20th and Thursday November 21st. This inspection is called a Whole School Evaluation (WSE). The last time that there was such an inspection was almost ten years ago. The inspectors will be looking at every aspect of the school, including the teaching and learning of the curriculum as well as looking at all the policies and various activities taking place in the school. They will also be organising various questionnaires. The inspectors will of course be making recommendations which will help all of us going forward into a very bright future. This WSE will be a great opportunity to show them what a wonderful school Kilmacanogue National School is and how very special all the children are. We are all looking forward to it!

There are a lot of young children playing in the field before the start of the school day. Please could children remain on the tarmac and not play in the field, for Health and Safety reasons. Ideally children should not be on the school premises before 9:10am, which is ten minutes before school doors open. Again, this is for Health and Safety reasons because there is no member of staff on hand to supervise. Apologies for this and thank you for your understanding and support.

A reminder that school will be closed on Monday November 18th to facilitate a training day for the New Primary Language Curriculum Stage 2 for teachers in Blackrock Education Centre.

And now what you have been waiting for……Miss Murray’s joke!…..actually Anna McCarthy’s joke from 5th Class!!

Why is there no medicine in the jungle? …….Because parrots eat ‘em all!!! (paracetamol!!)

Good girl Anna, very clever joke!!

    Niamh Murray

    (Principal)
