WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER MAY 1ST 2019 
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Today heralds the first of May. Traditionally, May is known as the Month of Mary, associated with the sun shining and the preparation for the summer term and the holidays! How many of you remember the song, Bring Flowers of the Rarest? The boys and girls of Kilmacanogue National School are busy learning this song to sing at our assemblies during the Month of May. Each day of the month we shall be reciting a Decade of the Rosary at noon and during this time everyone will be encouraged to reflect and pause and have a quiet moment of prayer or meditation.
Before the Easter, we had a lovely Easter Bake sale and the money raised from this was over €700 which will be going towards the new school library, which I am delighted to say is completed regarding the building work and now only needs to be kitted out as a library. Thanks to all our wonderful parents for all their help. Isobel Bownes from 4th Class who initiated the Crazy Hair/Hat day before Easter raised €630 for the Gavin Glynn Foundation. Well done Isobel and thanks again to all the children from Kilmacanogue who are ALWAYS very, very kind.
May is going to be very busy with the children working on their Standardised Tests. There is absolutely NOTHING to worry anybody about these tests, they are simply helpful learning references on the overall performance of the school and the children within the school designed to indicate areas which may need improving when it comes to the overall academic administration of the school.
Our new Parents’ Association Committee was elected at the AGM last night. They include: Lisa Dempsey (Chairperson); Linda Giles (Vice-Chairperson); Liz Cafferkey (Secretary); Liz Driver (Treasurer); Sonia Draper (PRO). On behalf of myself and the Board of Management, I would like to welcome them and to wish them all our support and the very best for the future. We have already hit the road running, and have some great ideas for the future, and I know that working together as part of a team will be of enormous benefit to the whole school and most especially to the children in our care.
Please could all Trócaire boxes be returned to the school asap.
The school will be closed for 4 days during May:
Monday May 6th Bank Holiday;
Friday May 24th European Elections;
Monday May 27th Staff Planning Day based on the New Language Curriculum;
Friday May 31st and Monday June 3rd June Bank Holiday
