Dear Parents/Guardians and of course Boys and Girls, 
Well, we are now into the final stretch as we approach the finishing line leading to the summer holidays! Next Wednesday, school will close its doors for the summer at 12 noon when we bid farewell to our wonderful 6th Class boys and girls.
It is going to be a very emotional day for us all especially for those 18 families who have had children in Kilmacanogue National School for many years and who now will be saying goodbye with the last of their children to attend this special school.
On behalf of myself and the whole school community, I would like to pay tribute to all those families leaving us for good including the: Darcy, Doyle, Keenan, McGoldrick, Mooney, Nolan, Phillips, Connolly Kelly, Forster, Kavanagh, Leahy, Lynch, McElhinney, Mocharskyy, Murray, Pearse, Ryan and Wainwright Smith families. We will miss all of you very much and wish you and of course all the children including those whose siblings are still in the school, the very, very best in the future and all the happiness in the world. You will always be welcome here in Kilmacanogue National School. You are forever a part of the fabric that makes up the heart and soul of this school community.
As you can imagine, the final month of the school year is always very hectic and full of activities and excitement including the highly successful ‘tours’ to Killruddery for Alive Outside Activities, which took place over the past week or so. The overwhelming response is that these were very popular with the children and the manner in which all the amazing activities was organised by the staff in Killruddery was commented upon by the teachers. So, perhaps, next year there will be a return visit……but of course we shall have to wait to see.
Last Thursday evening, June 17th, the incoming Junior Infants of 2021/2022 had a chance to visit their classroom and meet their teacher. Of course keeping socially distant, wearing face mask/coverings and in line with the HSE and gov.ie guidelines. The children really seemed to have a lovely time meeting their classmates and their teacher, Ms Quiney. I think that the arrival of a certain Ice-Cream van also helped as everyone was treated to a delicious ice-cream cone beautifully provided by Lorraine, our favourite Ice-Cream Lady!
Yesterday, Tuesday June 22nd, we had a visit from ‘Wooly Farm’. The children from Junior Infants up to and including 2nd Class, had a fabulous time in the glorious sunshine, meeting the very furry and woolly little and large animals when they arrived from their farm in Tipperary. As you can see from the picture at the top of this newsletter, a very elegant Llama came to call as well. Ms Murray even ended up having a little furry duck sitting on top of her head……..I wonder did the little bird think it was sitting on a nest??? Thanks so much to our fabulous Parents’ Association for organising this lovely memory for the children.
The Graduation for 6th Class will be taking place via ZOOM, next Monday at noon. A link will be sent to everyone involved before then. Unfortunately, it will not be the same without the parents but we will still have a very special and memorable ceremony for all the children.
Over the next few days, your child’s class teacher will be asking your child to bring home the books that belong to them. The boxes will be remaining in school. A school bag or suitably strong bag will be needed to carry the books home, especially for the children in the more senior classes whose books are quite heavy. Please make sure not to keep any books belonging to the school as these are part of the School Book Rental Scheme…….books such as SESE and SPHE …..History, Science, Geography etc. If you are not sure, please phone the school office or check your child’s booklist because it outlines which books are on the scheme.
We are delighted to welcome sisters Jemima and Matilda Ellis who have joined the family of Kilmacanogue National School. We hope your time with us will be very happy. Céad míle fáilte.
