    KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

    WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER JANUARY 16th 2019

     Dear Parents/Guardians,

This week’s newsletter will have a lot of information even though we are only in to our second week back to school in 2019!

Colm Gaskin has returned to teach the various skills in GAA for the next number of Wednesdays and we are delighted with that. At the moment he is focusing on 5th and 6th Class.

The Parent/Teacher meetings will start officially next week from Tuesday 22nd, Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th. It is very important that you contact the class teacher to arrange times and I understand that various letters have been sent out by the teachers to arrange the meeting times. The school will close at 2:45pm each of those days so as to facilitate the going home of the children and the prompt start of the meetings. Please be on time to collect your children. If it is necessary for young children to accompany their parents to the meetings, it is of the utmost importance that they be supervised by their parents at all times to ensure productive and safe Parent/Teacher meetings. Thank you for your understanding in this regard.

WhizzKids will also start next Friday January 25th and will last for ten weeks for 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Classes. I am really looking forward to this lovely initiative, which I hope will be of huge benefit to the children involved.

The dates for the various services and ceremonies for 2nd and 6th Classes are as follows:

    • Preparation Mass for 2nd Class First Communion is on Sunday 27th January at 10:00am
    • Service of Light for 6th Class is on Wednesday February 27th at 7:30pm
    • Confirmation for 6th Class is on Friday March 15th at 11:00am.
    • First Confession also known as the Sacrament of Reconciliation for 2nd Class is on Tuesday April 2nd at 7:30pm.
    • First Communion for 2nd Class is on Saturday May 18th at 10:00am

All of these ceremonies will take place in St Mochonog’s Church, Kilmacanogue.

The school booster vaccinations for the Junior Infants will take place in the school on Wednesday 23rd. The consent forms which were sent to all the parents/guardians should be given back to the class teacher, Mr Hurley, and these forms will then be collected by the Clerical Officer on Tuesday the 22nd January. It would help the nurses greatly if the children were to wear their tracksuits on the day of the vaccinations.

Please could I remind everyone that the children enter the school at their correct door at 9:20am. After this time those doors will be closed from 9:40am until going home time. After 9:40am, the only entrance to the school will be through the front door. Also, please could I ask that parents/guardians bring their children to their correct door in the morning, where applicable, and leave from that door instead of exiting through the school’s front door. Children will be walking up through the school corridor from 9:30am to their various activities and it is not safe to have too many people and buggies at this time in the school in this area. Thank you for your understanding in this regard.

Once again to remind everyone that our new word this year is: ENCOURAGE. It goes very well with the wonderful motto we have been promoting in our school which is; If it’s not nice, don’t do it and if it’s not nice, don’t say it. We are going to try to encourage each other to do the right thing throughout 2019 both inside school and outside of the school.

The exciting Food Dudes initiative has begun for our Junior and Senior Infants as well as for 1st Class and the children have been very good sampling the various fruit and vegetables such as bananas, cucumbers, peppers and oranges. The Senior Classes will begin next week. As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, this initiative is designed to enable children to enjoy eating healthy diets, and to create a healthy eating culture within schools extending to the home.

    And finally, Miss Murray’s joke.

What flies around the school at night?…………An alpha – bat!

    Niamh Murray (Principal)
