KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 13th  2019

 Dear Parents/Guardians,

Well, our mid-term will begin next week from Monday 18th until Friday 22nd inclusive, and I think that everyone will be delighted to get a little rest after all the hard work which has been done by the children and the teachers throughout this first term of 2019. There have been great displays of Art throughout the school as well as beautiful cards and posters celebrating St Valentine’s Day. I have also noticed the beautiful hand-writing from the Senior Infants Classes……well done to all the boys and girls.

We had a visit from the Diocesan Advisor last week and Sr Edel was most impressed with the lovely atmosphere and air of happiness she experienced as she visited the various classes. I told her all about our school motto: If it’s not nice, don’t do it and if it’s not nice, don’t say it as well as our special word: ENCOURAGE. Happy children learn so much more and become well-rounded, confident young people which is what we all want for the wonderful children of Kilmacanogue National School.

The Trócaire Boxes will be given out to each child tomorrow, Thursday. Thanks for always being so very generous to those less well off. Lent isn’t too far away now, starting on Wednesday 6th March, and it is always a good time to reflect on our lives as well as on those around us so as to see how we can help our fellow man/woman.

Could I ask that if your child is going to be absent or late coming to school, that you ring the office or email the school or let the teacher know by 9:30am that morning? This is of absolute importance especially considering Child Protection Issues and Stranger/Danger. If we have not been informed that your child is not in school, the school is left in a difficult situation and most importantly, your child is very vulnerable if something untoward has happened. We are updating a school policy on this and will let you know as soon as possible what steps will be put in place to help us all in this important level of communication. Thank you for your understanding in this.

Sad to say, the nits are back in town! Please could you make sure to check your child’s hair and if necessary wash frequently with an appropriate shampoo for head lice. It is very important that we are all conscious of this. We need to annihilate and pulverise these critters once and for all!!

The Preparation Mass for Confirmation will take place this coming Sunday, 17th, at 10:00am in St Mochonog’s Church, Kilmacanogue. The Service/Ceremony of Light is fast approaching and will take place on 27th of February at 7:30pm with Confirmation taking place on 15th March at 11:00.

And finally, Miss Murray’s joke.

What did the girl squirrel say to the boy squirrel on Valentine’s Day???……… I’m nuts about you!!                                          Niamh Murray (Principal)
