KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 12th 2020

 Dear Parents/Guardians, Boys and Girls,

Well just when we thought that the good weather had come with the start of Spring last week, what a shock with the arrival of storm Ciara and all the snow and ice experienced throughout many parts of the country.  The children in Kilmacanogue National School enjoyed playing in the snow fall yesterday.

At assembly on Monday, the boys and girls heard about the story of Jesus bringing new life to the daughter of Jairus who had died. Her parents were overjoyed. The message of the story taken from the Gospel according to Mark was that it is natural to be sad when those we have loved have died, but that there will be great joy when we are re-united in heaven.

Our Confirmation and Communion dates have been organised. The lovely Ceremony of Light for 6th Class will take place on Thursday March 5th at 7pm in St Mochonog’s Church with Confirmation taking place not long after on Friday March 13th at 11am. The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as the Sacrament of Penance and First Confession, will take place for 2nd Class on Thursday March 19th at 7pm with Communion taking place on Saturday May 16th at 10am, both ceremonies in St Mochonog’s Church. These are beautiful ceremonies and the children are working very hard preparing their prayers and songs and art-work.

Thanks to Fr Hyacinth who celebrated Mass in our school hall today, Wednesday. The children from 2nd class up to and including 6th class participated in this lovely ceremony, praying, singing and responding to all the responses. It makes it very special having Mass said in our school.

Reminder to everyone that the school will be closed for the mid-term break from Monday February 17th to Friday 21st inclusive.

PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION INFORMATION: The Parents’ Association have organised a non-uniform day for the children with a donation of €2 on Friday 14th for Valentine’s Day and the children may wear something red if they wish to. If anyone fancies a coffee or a chat and cake after having dropped their child to school on Friday, the Parents’ Association are also hosting a coffee morning the same day, Friday 14th, and they also have a wonderful hamper worth over €150 as a raffle prize! Everyone is welcome.

SAVE THE DATE: All parents are invited by the Parents’ Association to attend an information evening in the school hall presented by Dr Bernie Collins and Dr Seline Keating from DCU on Tuesday 25th February entitled GEM: Gender Equality Matters. With funding from the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme in the EU, Dr Collins and Dr Keating have developed a programme which is age appropriate and grounded in the SPHE curriculum and school polices such as bullying, well-being and child protection. This is a free event with no tickets required. We look forward to seeing you there.
