Dear Parents/Guardians and of course Boys and Girls,
What do you think of the magnificent Nativity Scene created by our own amazing SNA Eva Hogan?? Isn’t it beautiful? It is positioned in the alcove on the way out to the Junior Infant Classroom and contains figures representing Mary, Joseph, Shepherds, Angels, Lambs, Donkeys, Cows and of course the Baby Jesus. The children who have seen it, absolutely LOVE IT. Over the next few days, all the other children will be invited to pay a visit. It is Kilmacanogue National School’s very own special, unique Nativity Scene.
We have been celebrating Advent throughout the school, with a little prayer service for December 8th reminding us of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception as well as tuning into the webcam of Enniskerry’s Parish Church at 11:30am Monday for Fr Bernard’s blessing and lighting of the candles on the Advent Wreath.
The voices of the children have been heard beautifully and gently singing the various traditional Christmas Carols as well as all the funny songs throughout the school. There is much excitement in many of the classes as the children are rehearsing their Christmas Plays and Concerts…….
Don’t forget to drop up to the school’s main entrance to see our lovely Christmas Tree decorated by the elves and to post your letter to Santa Claus in the letter box next to the tree. The children will have received their Christmas Cards now which were handed out by the Parents’ Association. The Art Work looks amazing, well done boys and girls.
On Monday, the teachers were treated to a wonderful surprise when Jamie Duff arrived to the school to give all the staff cups of coffee and chocolate and yummy cakes…….adhering to HSE and gov.ie guidelines of course. A certain well-known footballer was on hand to help serve up the goodies!!! Thanks so much Jamie and Damien, the dark, rainy day was very much brightened up by the surprise and goodies.
On Friday December 11th, the teachers will be sending out a little Progress Report to all the parents of the children in their class. This is just a brief, general overview of your child’s progress since school opened last September. We are very conscious that face to face meetings have not been possible and we thought that these Progress Reports would be a help in keeping up the very good communication that exists between the teachers and parents. We are looking forward to having our more detailed Parent/Teacher meetings at the end of January as in the past, but these may well take place via phone calls or Zoom due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
Just a little reminder to please let the office know if your child is going to be absent from school or late for any reason and of course, remember to sign and email the Return to School Form if your child has been absent. Thanks so much for your support in this as in everything.
Well done to Ms Denvir’s 1st Class for their excellent Gaeilge. Cá bhfuil tú? Tá mé sa seomra suí. Tá mé sa halla. Tá mé sa chistin. Tá mé sa seomra folctha. Tá mé sa seomra leapa. And the children filmed all the places where they were to be found!! Go hiontach!!
Regarding the children’s handing out Christmas Cards to their classmates, on advice received from HSE sources, children are welcome to bring their cards into school but they must be handed to their class teacher who will put them in a special area in the classroom where they will be quarantined for 3 days and after that time, the teacher will hand them out. This is just to be very sure that the health and safety of all the children and staff is preserved as we all head into our Christmas Holidays when we will be visiting relatives and friends following HSE and gov.ie guidelines. We have done BRILLIANTLY so far in keeping COVID-19 out of the school…….Well done everyone.
Remember that school will be closing Tuesday December 22nd at about noon for the Christmas Holidays. The times will be staggered by just a few minutes to ensure that there isn’t a large group leaving the school at the same time. The Senior Classes from 3rd up to and including 6th Classes will leave at 11:50am and the Junior Classes from Junior Infants up to and including 2nd Classes will leave at 12 noon.
School will reopen on January 6th 2021 for a bright New Year for everyone full of good things!
