WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 5th 2018
Dear Parents/Guardians,
What a fantastic day we had in Kilmacanogue National School last Sunday with our Christmas Fair. There were great crowds and wonderful stalls full of lots of art and crafts and tasty morsels. There was a chocolate fountain and there were seating areas for teas and coffees and a general place to relax. The children from all the classes had made wonderful Christmas gifts from toy Santas to Christmas trees and cards which were available to purchase. Oran Phillips from 6th Class wrote and sold his own cook book full of delicious recipes for desserts. Well done Oran! There was even an area for children to make their own Arts and Crafts as well as an opportunity for face painting. Thanks to Elizabeth Driver for this. I saw lots of Grinches, Snow Queens, Cats and Fairies!!!The atmosphere was electric and full of happiness.
I don’t know how she managed it, but Niamh O’Carroll Kelly made contact with an intergalactic stellar galaxy and as a result we had a visit from a Storm Trooper from Star Wars who was very impressed with everything he saw and indeed he is considering starting school with us next year! But……..what can we say about Santa Claus?? He was fantastic and we were all so grateful that he took time out of his incredibly busy schedule to pay us a visit here in Kilmacanogue National School to see all the boys and girls. Santa told me afterwards that he couldn’t believe that a special Santa’s Grotto had been made for him in honour of his visit. I really hope that he will make a return visit to us next year for what I hope will be an annual event. Special thanks must go to Liz Forster who designed and built Santa’s Grotto with huge support from Jean Doyle, whose lights and huge inflatable Santa decorated the hall and Grotto. The Grotto is still in the school hall and the children are able to avail of it during December for little time out sessions and treats. Kilmacanogue National School must be the only school in Ireland with its own exclusive Santa’s Grotto!! Thanks again, Liz and Jean and to all the parents who helped out.
When I first mentioned the possibility of a school Fair I had thought about a Sports’ Fair…….but, Emma Sibley and Eva Hogan, our amazing SNAs, suggested the Christmas Fair and then put tremendous work and effort in to organising it! Thank you so much ladies for all you did and all you do for our school. Without their inspiration and drive, the Christmas Fair would not have happened. Thanks also to all the ladies of the Parents’ Association Committee including Kathryn Whelan, Caroline Woods, Julie-Ann Brady, Sinead Reynolds and Lisa Dempsey for all their help and support. I’m not sure how Lisa did it, but the amount of quality prizes for the raffle was extraordinary!! Of particular note was the magnificent Christmas Cake made by Molly Conroy. Contributions are still coming in to the school, so the final amount, will be in next week’s Newsletter, but to date, after expenses, we have certainly raised in excess of €2400!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
4th Class are holding a breakfast morning tomorrow, Thursday Dec 6th, for 2nd, 3rd and 5th Classes, in aid of Focus Ireland, to help all those unfortunate families who are in danger of being left homeless or who currently are homeless. A donation of €2 would be much appreciated but absolutely NO OBLIGATION.
Next Wednesday, December 12th, 3rd and 4th Classes will be attending their rehearsal for the Peace Proms Concert which will be taking place next February 2nd 2019. The rehearsal is in the National Sports’ Arena, Blanchardstown from 12.30pm -2pm. The organisers have asked that all choir members wear their school uniform, so no track suits please. I am sure that all the children will be very well behaved and will represent their school with pride.
And now…….joke time!
