    KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

    WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 21st 2018

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope that you all had a lovely mid-term break. It is lovely to be back at school especially with the sun brightening the skies above us and the daffodils in bloom. Wasn’t it another great win for Ireland on the rugby field, this time against Italy? I have no doubt at all that the presence of Harry Browne helped inspire Ireland! Well done Harry on leading out the Irish team with Irish Captain Rory Best. Also, the team had our very own Jack Conan number 8 playing on the team……Jack is a past pupil of our school. Up Kilmacanogue National School……the best school in Ireland!!

BEST OF LUCK TO IRELAND AGAINST WALES THIS SATURDAY!

There is a lot of fantastic reading going on throughout the school. I really love to hear the voices of all our children as they happily read their various books especially our youngest boys and girls. I listen to them all from my office as they make their way to the school library. They chat about what they have read and share their favourite stories with their friends. A note has been sent home with the children from 1st up to 6th Classes, by the Parents Association asking for any advice you may have regarding the selection of interesting books for the school library to enhance the reading experience of your children.

Tomorrow, Thursday 22nd, is the joint birthday of the Founder of the Girl Guides, Lord Baden Powell and his wife Olave Baden Powell, World Chief Guide. If your daughter is a member of the Irish Girl Guides, whether that is a Ladybird or a Brownie, please feel free to let her wear her Irish Girl Guides’ uniform tomorrow to celebrate this occasion along with all the other Girl Guides throughout the world.

The ACCORD team will be visiting the school on Monday February 26th, the details have been given to the children of 5th and 6th Classes. Please read them and fill out the permission slip as appropriate.

Don’t forget about Mass this coming Sunday in Kilmacanogue Church at 10am for 6th Class  in preparation for Confirmation. March 8th at 7.30pm, is the date and time for the Ceremony of Light for 6th Class with Confirmation itself taking place on Friday 16th March at 11am.

March will also be a very busy month for 2nd Class with their First Confession, also known as the Sacrament of Reconciliation, taking place at 7.30pm in Kilmacanogue Church on Thursday 22nd. First Communion will take place on May 19th. I shall remind you nearer the time.

And now for Miss Murray’s joke…….

Which flowers talk the most?…….Tulips….because they have two lips!!

    Best wishes always,
