Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thanks to Lisa Dempsey and all her effort in organising the Lidl Poster. We are now onto our second one and the stickers are coming in thick and fast. We are certainly in with a great chance of winning the €50,000 worth of school equipment!! As the saying goes, if you’re not in you can’t win!
The children at assembly on Monday saw the very large sized cheque which showed that €1,500 had been raised from the concerts held in St Mary’s Parish Church, Enniskerry last December. I enjoyed singing with Enniskerry Choir over the past two Christmases when together we raised more than €6,500 for Kilmacanogue National School. Last year, our school was the main beneficiary and this year the main beneficiary was the very worthy charity Five Loaves in Bray.Thanks to everyone who attended the concerts and who supported in anyway.
Thanks again to all the parents who are letting the school know, either by email or by ringing the office, that their children will be absent or late coming to school by 9:30am. It has made a huge difference to us in the office and to the class teacher. If possible, could we ask that children be kept at home if they are too unwell to come to school? We understand that it can be very difficult for parents to arrange this all the time, but there are times during lunchbreak when there are more than 15 children staying in from the yard due to illness. Poor Siobhán and Fiona are run off their feet! Please make sure to send a note to the class teacher if your child has to stay in from yard.
Some parents were concerned that the children could not see the teachers on yard, so to rectify this, with a suggestion from Ms Quiney our 5th Class teacher, Ms Bourke, our Deputy Principal, has organised high-viz jackets for all the teachers and SNAs on yard duty. During the 11:00-11:10am break there are 3 teachers, including myself, each day on duty as well as 4 SNAs and during the 1:00-1:30pm there are 4 teachers on duty, 2 in each yard area as well as 2 SNAs on each yard.
Tomorrow, Thursday March 14th, the boys from 5th and 6th Classes will be taking part in the 2nd day of Cumann na mBunscol in Bray Emmets. We wish them all the best as they continue on their winning spree!!
Thanks to Garda Adam Nolan who called in last week to talk to the children about ‘Stranger Danger’ as well as ‘Cyber-Bullying’. We are so very lucky to have such a wonderful friend and supporter as Garda Nolan. He will be back again in a few weeks to continue his talk. It is most important that parents/guardians help us in the school regarding the use of all devices so that together we can protect our children from the negative impacts of the internet and various sites.
On Friday March 15th, the boys and girls of 6th Class will be making their Confirmation in St Mochonog’s Church, Kilmacanogue at 11:00am, in what promises to be a very moving ceremony. Hopefully the sun will shine brightly and warmly that day! We all wish them and their teacher Ms Eibhlin de Bruin the very best.
Parents/Guardians of children in 4th, 5th Classes especially should check out the various secondary schools in their area and those where they would like their children to attend as there are various open nights occurring at this time of the year.
Some of you may have noticed the new windows that have been installed in what was the room full of old toilets and which is being turned into a library. We hope to have the work finished in the next few weeks.
Thanks to everyone who has sent in Voluntary Contributions so far. Your donations really make a difference and I sincerely hope that you can see the huge amount of positive work which has been carried out in the school over the past 18 months or so. Everything that is being done and has been done is for the benefit of your children, and an environment which promotes holistic positivity in our children is so important to their overall well-being.
Finally, let me remind you that school will be closed this coming Monday 18th following St Patrick’s Day. Let me wish you all, on behalf of everyone here in Kilmacanogue National School, a very Happy St Patrick’s Day, Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona dhaoibh go léir.
