KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL

WEDNESDAY NEWSLETTER JANUARY 17th 2018

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The new school term has well and truly started and all the children in Kilmacanogue National School are working very hard. I have visited all the classes regularly and I am delighted with everyone’s level of engagement, focus and the high standard being achieved. Well done everyone.

The weather has been bitterly cold and there have been a few flurries of snow. All the children need to be wrapped up warmly with hats, gloves and coats. Also, the cold virus is quite virulent at the moment and can be contagious. If your child is coughing and showing signs of the ‘flu bug’, please keep him/her at home to help contain the spread of the virus. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

Don’t forget about the Parent/Teacher meetings which will be taking place next week from Monday to Wednesday. A note has been sent home with every child giving more details. Just as the little image on this Wednesday Newsletter suggests, together, teachers and parents, we can all deliver the very best possible education for each of our children in Kilmacanogue National School. The school cannot work effectively without the support of all the wonderful parents, and at the heart of everything we do together, is each child…..we must never forget that.

With this in mind, I need to address the tricky issue of the use and participation of children on social media sites such as WhatsApp and Snapchat. Remember that the digital age of consent when children may access the internet and avail of its services is 13. We lead by example and as adults we need to be mindful of being on sites where comments are being made i

n a public forum which are defamatory and libellous. As Principal of your child’s school, I will try everything in my power to protect your child from any form of bullying or harassment which may come from these sites, but I need your help. PLEASE MONITOR YOUR CHILD’S USE OF THE INTERNET……CYBER BULLYING IS APPALLING AND WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OR TOLERATED IN KILMACANOGUE NATIONAL SCHOOL.

On a lighter note, to those who follow Liverpool, wasn’t that a great win over Manchester City last week? It looks like Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane will be staying on as managers of Ireland for a little while longer…….here’s looking forward to some great victories for our own Irish Team.

The school is busy getting ready for ‘Friendship Week’ which will be taking place at the start of February when lots of fun activities will be happening throughout the school…..more about that nearer the time.

Time for me to go now. I wish you all a very happy, positive week ahead, and as always be assured of my total support to each and every one of you.
